Westside Ballet of Santa Monica presents a weekend ballet celebration commemorating company founder, Yvonne Mounsey. Festivities kick off Saturday, June 8, featuring a Centennial Gala fundraiser dinner and classical ballet performance. Accomplished guest stars—most formerly trained by Mounsey—will travel from afar to honor the centenary of the late ballet icon's birth.
Westside's annual Spring Performances follow the Gala, with two presentations set for Sunday, June 9. Featuring the gifted young dancers of the renowned Westside Ballet, the annual Spring Performance offers a collection of pieces that showcase their emerging talent. Eighty dancers will grace the stage in a remarkable display of artistry, beginning with George Balanchine's breathtaking Serenade and Yvonne Mounsey’s charming ballets Dances from Faust and Ecoossaises. The youngest dancers then take over the stage with Caprice Walker’s spectacular Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra, with spirited music by Benjamin Britten, before resident Jazz Director Michele Bachar offers decadence with her classic Cabaret. The program will close with Mounsey’s inspiring signature ballet Classical Symphony with dynamic music by Prokofiev.
